Connecticut Governmental Affairs Conference
The Credit Union League of Connecticut’s Annual Government Affairs Conference will be held May 15, 2014, in the Connecticut Room (2nd Floor) at the Hilton Hartford, located at 315 Trumbull Street in Hartford. Speakers will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the program will conclude with a luncheon at noon.
Our state GAC offers valuable updates from many in our Congressional delegation, the Governor’s Office, the Connecticut General Assembly, and state and federal regulators. This year, we will be joined by Ryan Donovan, Senior Vice President - Legislative Affairs at CUNA, who will provide up-to-date information on legislative and regulatory hot topics like Risk-Based Capital, housing finance reform, and UBIT.
We will also be joined by Commissioner Howard Pitkin of the CT Department of Banking and Tanya Meck, EVP and Managing Partner of Global Strategy Group. Tanya designed to implement strategic communication plans for a wide reach of clients including legislators and grassroots advocacy campaigns. Each week, Tanya joins a panel of communications and political strategists on “Connecticut Capitol Report” which airs every Sunday morning at 10:30 AM on Fox Connecticut. Tanya will be sharing her political insight with us and will discuss the upcoming elections.
Our first compliance networking meeting was a great success. Our open forum provided opportunity to express concerns, exchange ideas and understand best practices our credit unions have put in place as it pertains to the new mortgage regulations that came into effect January 2014. Thank you to all who attended and contributed. Our lively group is excited to meet again on May 20, 2014 at 9:00 am at the league. The topic of choice is Fair Lending. This topic was chosen based on the next league in house training session “Fair Lending and How to Conduct a Fair Lending Risk Assessment” scheduled for May 14, 2014 at “IL Monticello”, facilitated by M & M Consulting. We felt this would be a good time to discuss the takeaways from the May 14th training session. If you were not able to join us today, we hope you will consider our future meetings.
