General Summary:

The Consumer Lending Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the consumer lending loan fulfillment team and functional groups, including underwriting and processing. 

This position is On-site 

Key Essential Responsibilities 

  1. Oversees consumer lending operations staff (underwriters and loan transaction coordinators) and underwrites and funds loan transactions when necessary. Conducts meetings with employees to review changes to policies, procedures and department workflow. 
  2. Effectively manages consumer loan pipeline. Ensures that consumer loan applications are processed and underwritten in a compliant manner and consistent with company guidelines, policies, and procedures.  
  3. Motivates, coaches, and trains the credit union’s consumer loan operations staff and Branch/Digital Banking teams on consumer lending products and workflow. Ensures that internal teams are aligned and focused on achieving the credit union’s production goals, cycle times, and member satisfaction expectations. Conducts meetings with employees to review production and changes to policies and procedures.
  4. Works with Lending, Branch, Digital, and Operations teams to evaluate and refine existing systems and processes, looking to increase efficiency and improve the member experience.  
  5. Oversees the resolution of all consumer loan quality control stipulations. 
  6. Assists in managing relationships with a variety of consumer lending vendors: credit reporting agency, loan origination system, insurance vendors, and indirect auto dealers, and others as needed. 
  7. Evaluates and recommends the appropriate staffing needs of the department.   Recruits, interviews and recommends qualified personnel. Ensures that all employee performance appraisals are completed and administered in a timely manner, including goal setting, providing constructive feedback in a professional manner and developing a career path for each individual.  Recommends, documents and administers employee counseling and disciplinary actions in coordination with Human Resources. 
  8. Promotes and maintains a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management and vendors.
  9. Keeps abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to changes in regulations and technology.
  10. Ensures adherence to company policies and procedures and banking/credit union regulations.
  11. Performs additional duties as required.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Requirements 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.  Will consider experience in lieu of degree. 
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience underwriting/originating consumer or real estate loans
  3. A minimum of 3 years of experience using a loan origination system with automated underwriting capabilities. 
  4. Strong knowledge of state and federal banking laws and regulations.  
  5. Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and leadership skills.  Must be able to effectively manage projects and possess high level presentation and sales skills.   
  6. Ability to travel up to 30%.
  7.  Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
