Spotlight on Dave Hinchey
Vice President of Community & Social Impact Director of CUBFI | League Leadership Team 10 Years of Service
As the Vice President of Community & Social Impact and Director of our foundation, Credit Unions Building Financial Independence (CUBFI), Dave Hinchey has spent the last decade shaping programs that empower credit unions and uplift the communities they serve. A member of the League’s Leadership Team, Dave leads with heart, vision, and a deep belief in the power of collaboration.
In His Words
What do you enjoy most about your role?
“I feel like I have the best job in the CT credit union industry. I love the fact that I get to interact with so many different people both inside and outside the credit union community. I love the impact credit unions have on their community and I like sharing in their success.”
Favorite part of working at the League:
“The people and the relationships. The people who work at Connecticut’s credit unions are truly the best. They’re supportive of me and the work the foundation does. This role also
gives me some flexibility in deciding which programs and initiatives I can spearhead to help our member credit unions succeed.”
He’s especially proud of initiatives like the Exploring the Why Workshop (EWW) and a recent first-time workshop on empathy that drew strong engagement.
Beyond the Office
Dave’s passion for helping others extends beyond his professional life. In his free time, you’ll find him running, cooking, or smoking meats — hobbies that bring joy and balance to his busy schedule. A memorable personal milestone?
- My go-to fun fact about myself was that back in 2017, I completed a crossing from Alcatraz to the shores of San Francisco as part of an organized swim race. I finished the swim in less than an hour in 58-degree water!

What motivates you?
“My personality type is one of helping and of service. I love helping people and providing assistance wherever I can.”
Advice to new employees:
“By working at a credit union, you’re playing a part in helping lift people out of financial insecurity so they can achieve financial well-being.”
If you could switch roles for a day...
“I wanted to pitch for the Atlanta Braves growing up — I still do. Being a competition BBQ pitmaster or owning a winery would be cool too!”
Proudest moment at work?
“So many! Pulling off our 2024 golf tournament with record attendance after the course had a catastrophic fire… Co-facilitating the National Credit Union Foundation’s DE program in
2024… launching the leveraging empathy session... Early in my career, I was proud to help transition our financial reality fair program to an app-based model in 2019.”
