CT Labor Department Federal Credit Union (CT Labor) is seeking a mission-driven, hands-on Manager/CEO to lead its next chapter of service and sustainability. As a small, member-focused cooperative serving employees of the Connecticut Department of Labor and their families, the credit union is looking for a leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong operational skills, and a passion for revitalizing a member focused SEG-based institution.

This is an excellent opportunity for a current credit union supervisor, accountant, lender, or assistant manager ready to step into their first top leadership role—or for an experienced small-credit-union executive seeking a meaningful, service-based leadership opportunity.

About the Credit Union
Founded more than 80 years ago, CT Labor provides safe, reliable, and personalized financial services to approximately 1,200 members. With most member interactions occurring by phone and in-person, the credit union is focused on modernizing its services, improving operational efficiency, and engaging the next generation of members. CT Labor has about $14 million in total assets, very well-capitalized, and positive net income.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Oversee all day-to-day operations of the credit union, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and exceptional member experience.
  • Maintain a transparent, honest, and collaborative leadership style with staff, volunteers, and the Board.
  • Support and supervise two full-time staff; provide coaching, training, and oversight as needed.
  • Ensure adequate internal controls, sound processes, and adherence to policies and procedures.

Finance, Accounting & Compliance

  • Manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, month-end and year-end financials, and reporting to the Board.
  • Oversee cash management, ALM monitoring, and budget preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCUA, BSA/AML, and federal/state regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with volunteer committees (e.g., credit committee, investment committee) to ensure sound financial decision-making.

Lending & Member Services

  • Oversee consumer and auto lending programs, including application review, underwriting within policy, and coordination with the Credit Committee when exceptions arise.
  • Monitor loan quality, portfolio performance, and opportunities for new lending products.
  • Ensure prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable service via phone, online channels, and in-person visits.

Strategic Growth & Technology

  • Evaluate and implement technology enhancements to improve online services, efficiency, and member convenience.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or expand products, services, and marketing outreach.
  • Conduct or oversee member surveys, promotional communications, and community engagement initiatives to strengthen membership.
  • Support the Board in long-term planning, including membership growth, operational sustainability, and succession planning.

Board Relations

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors; prepare financial reports, operational updates, and recommendations.
  • Implement Board-approved goals, policies, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with volunteers and maintain open, transparent communication at all times.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in credit union or community banking operations, finance, accounting, lending, or similar roles.
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with member service or branch operations.
  • Strong communication skills, integrity, and a transparent leadership style.
  • Ability to work hands-on in all areas of a small credit union environment. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a credit union management, assistant manager, supervisory, or operations role.
  • Lending experience (consumer/auto underwriting, policy interpretation, loan processing).
  • Familiarity with NCUA regulations, BSA/AML requirements, and basic compliance expectations.
  • Experience implementing or improving technology platforms (online banking, core systems, digital services).
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience ($75,000-$95,000)

Work Environment

  • On-site role with standard hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
