Over the past decade, Chris Whalen has distinguished himself as a trusted leader and strategic force within the League. As VP of Marketing and Strategic Solutions and Lead Executive of the League Services Corporation, Chris brings a rare blend of creative thinking, precision, and drive that helps turn big ideas into meaningful impact. 

His deep understanding of credit union values, paired with a forward-looking mindset, allows him to craft solutions that support the long-term success of our member credit unions. Whether leading major initiatives or working behind the scenes, Chris consistently demonstrates an unwavering commitment to excellence and collaboration.

What do you enjoy most about your role? 

“I like working toward making a difference and making a positive impact on the world. Credit unions can be an important catalyst for helping others improve their financial lives. If I’m able to help credit unions succeed, I can help their members succeed.” 

Favorite part of working at the League: 

“The opportunity to think outside the box and find creative solutions to achieve our goals. No two days are the same, and each year brings new challenges to be solved for the League and our member credit unions.” 

Chris approaches each new challenge with curiosity and determination, always pushing for the best possible outcomes for the League and the credit union community. 

Beyond the Office 

Outside of work, Chris enjoys quiet moments walking his dog, Merlin, and tuning in to his favorite economic and political podcasts. He brings the same thoughtful perspective and appetite for learning to his personal interests as he does to his professional endeavors.

“Millennial anxiety (LOL 😬).” 

Advice for new employees: 

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions, have ‘crazy’ ideas, try new things, or fail at something.” 

If you could switch roles for a day... 

“I’d like to try being a billionaire… but all jokes aside, I truly enjoy the work that I do, and I am lucky to be able to do what I do every day.” 

Proudest moment at work: 

“I’ve had the honor of experiencing so many high points during my career. A few that stand out: 
– Being selected as a young professional Crasher at GAC 
– Winning the THINK Prize (a CU innovation competition) 
– Driving statewide awareness initiatives that helped grow credit union membership 

 
More recently, I’m especially proud of the work I’m doing to drive future-focused discussions and business building with both small and large credit unions. I’m excited to see where our efforts lead.”
