President’s Message

What’s on the Horizon?
I learned something these past few months. I have visited with member credit unions facilitating planning sessions using a League-designed model that focuses more on stimulating real strategic thinking and value proposition than the traditional model of looking at comparative economic data and setting tactical targets.
These sessions revealed that, once you scratch beneath the surface, there is a soil rich with strategic nutrients to help management grow the credit union and set a successful vision for the future. Your stories of financial rescue, of compassionate lending, and innovation in typically overlooked areas are inspiring. These are the stories that both advance our legislative and policy interests, and help you recruit new members. But through these sessions, credit unions challenges become ever more clear. Your League is here to help fuel your success and remove your roadblocks.
Our 2023 advocacy agenda is progressing at increasing speed. Our initiative to bring Association Health Plans to Connecticut shows strong signs of success, we have built a strong coalition led by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, the Nonprofit Alliance, and the Realtors, among others. We are also promoting a bill to expand eligible field of membership to include associations in alignment with the NCUA rules.
As the League implements its 2023 strategy, please make your voice heard. What goals are you trying to achieve and what obstacles are in your way? Let us help you share your wins and member success stories with an even larger audience.
We have a large contingent attending CUNA GAC at the end of February. Your stories will help our legislative and regulatory leaders understand the credit union advantage more than any infographic or brochure. Let’s get talking.
Juntos Avanzamos, Together We Advance!
As always,
Bruce
