President's Message

For those of you who are not aware, nestled in the heart of Manchester, New Hampshire, lies America's Credit Union Museum – a hidden gem celebrating the rich history and evolution of credit unions in the United States. One of the most distinctive aspects of the museum is its unique "Herstory" exhibit—an ode to the oft overlooked role of women in shaping the credit union movement. Herstory embodies the essence of resilience, and of progress. It stands as a testament to the invaluable contributions of women like Kathy Chartier, whose recent induction has elevated the exhibit to new heights along with her fellow inductees.

To celebrate the occasion, the League sponsored the event and brought a great group of members to the ceremony on a very large and very chilly bus!

From early pioneers to modern-day leaders, the exhibit showcases the impact of women through an array of artifacts, documents, photographs, and engaging displays. Visitors can immerse themselves in the inspiring journeys of these unsung heroes, understanding how they navigated societal challenges to carve a path for future generations. While Herstory provides visitors an opportunity to reflect on how far the movement has come and the progress it has made towards a more inclusive future, it reminds us that the journey towards equality and inclusivity is not over. There is work to be done.

The trailblazing women inducted into Herstory are standard bearers to the cooperative principles. America’s Credit Union Museum unfurls their contributions as banners flying high enough for all of us to admire. Progress knows no gender, and the cooperative spirit thrives through unity and shared vision. As League friend and speaker Jon Slifka likes to say, let us not stop at the doorsteps of bare admiration or empty aspiration but instead be inspired to act.

Thank you, Kathy, for not only setting an admirable example for all of us, but for providing opportunities to inspire us all to follow your examples.

As always,

Bruce

P.S. It is my honor to have been appointed to serve on the board of America’s Credit Union Museum and I look forward to serving our movement in this new role.
