President's Message

Golf is Weird

Golf is a weird game. Just ask Jimmy Rees, the Guy Who Decides … everything. Jimmy Rees is an actor and comedian who started a series of hilarious videos as “The Guy Who Decides,” sort of a god-like character who berates an assistant (also played by Rees) while he invents things that have become commonplace in modern life. The Guy has decided everything from Easter to COVID restrictions, to product packaging. Well, Jimmy Rees decided golf and its worth a watch here (or click the picture above). Please join us for the CUBFI golf tournament on June 21. You can click here to register.

The League has seen many of you in recent days. On May 31, we held the League Annual Meeting where we announced that James Higgins was elected to the board as a new director. Welcome, James! Both Karen Viets and John Holt were re-elected to their positions. At the reorganization meeting, Karen was appointed Chair and John appointed Vice Chair. Please join us in congratulating Karen and John!

Just the other day, the League hosted a State GAC, which contained an impressive selection of speakers including Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, Rodney Hood, NCUA board member, and Abby Truhart, CUNA advocacy director. We were joined by Senator Eric Berthel and Representative Tom Delnicki of the banking committee, as well as Representative Kerry Wood, co-chair of the Insurance and Real Estate committee. Together with League lobbyist Josh Hughes from Capitol Consulting, the state legislators engaged the audience in a wide-ranging discussion on the 2022 legislative session and on certain bills of importance to credit unions. The League awarded Senator Berthel and Representative Delnicki with Legislator of the Year awards for 2021 and 2022, respectively. We are lucky that they will join us at APEX in October to share further perspective.

Finally, U.S. Representative Joe Courtney joined us to recognize Myron Kolinski for all his impactful work providing aid and support for those impacted by the military crisis in Ukraine. Rep. Courtney presented a legislative citation and engraved pewter bowl, and all joined in rousing applause.

As always,
Bruce
