President's Message
Prepare for Peace
Greetings from CUNA GAC 2022 in Washington D.C., where America’s credit unions find themselves firsthand eyewitnesses to the most significant geopolitical crisis and military escalation since the Bay of Pigs invasion. This evening, President Biden will deliver the State of the Union address. It is a safe bet that his speechwriters have earned some overtime pay this week.
“Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country” is a phrase often misattributed to Paul Revere or Patrick Henry (even Rudy Giuliani made that mistake twice in the same day). Far from a founding father, Mr. Charles E. Weller likely came up with the phrase as a typing drill in the late 19th century, replacing “their country” with “the party.”
While the source of the phrase is irrelevant given today’s circumstances, the sentiment is frighteningly acute. Now—this minute—all Americans have been called to vigilant attention. Yesterday I sent a memo to our member CEOs regarding the heightened need for increased cybersecurity awareness and preparation. We included links to operational resources and a template letter to send to your members about the issue.
We pray for a peaceful resolution to this conflict, and we stand with Ukraine.
Bruce
