President's Message

My usual morning routine was interrupted today by the richest man in all of the Amazon, Jeff Bezos, who followed Sir Richard Branson into space each using their own privately-built rocket ships. The Internet is awash with memes and jokes and even criticisms about the “second space race” or, as some call it, the latest feat of strength for today’s Billionaire. It's easy to make jokes (see the picture above) and it is practically a national pastime to criticize our celebrities. But are we missing something important here?

The fact is, our world has entered a new era that will launch us (couldn’t resist) into business and social disruptions that we cannot even imagine right now. In the midst of the COVID turmoil that has swirled around us like an evil, poison wind, some have continued innovating, improving, preparing for their moment. The industrial revolution appears alive and well in America and competition abounds. How did those people maintain the focus to be ready to accelerate out of the curve? How did they see the possibilities through the chaos?

To be clear, this is not to say that these captains of industry have it right. There is plenty of need right outside our doors and there is plenty of criticism to levy at those who hoard their wealth. Whether we admire or revile Bezos and Branson, they had a vision and accomplished it despite a massive disruption. not even these guys had “Worldwide Pandemic” in their business continuity plans.

Now that the dust is settling, we are all able to see a little bit farther out on the horizon. What do you see? How has your world changed from July 2019? What looks different? What do you like? What do you need to change? We are approaching a new normal. If history has taught us anything, it is that change brings opportunity. How will you not only identify the right opportunity for you, but how will you take advantage of it?
