President's Message

A preliminary note on today’s Presidential inauguration:

As our first President delivered his farewell address, General George Washington famously declared that “The common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.”

There will be time enough for partisan gaming, but today is a solemn day reserved for reverent observation of another turn of the wheel of American democracy.

Supporting strong partnerships in our communities is a fundamental value among credit unions. When our communities need support, credit unions are there. We help people to pick up the pieces and move forward to a brighter future. The league takes that value seriously.

With that in mind, I turn your attention to a wonderful organization that has been working in service to Hartford’s youth for the past 127 years: Hartford’s Camp Courant. As the oldest free day camp in the nation, Camp Courant has steadfastly honored its commitment to serving the children of Hartford – with outdoor fun and recreation, with education, with camaraderie and mentorship. They share deeply the values of our credit unions with that inherent belief in community, and the knowledge that an investment in our children and families is an investment in our greater society.

I am honored to serve as chair of Camp Courant’s 10th annual Arch Street Tavern fundraiser this year. Scheduled for Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. outside of Arch Street Tavern in Hartford, this year’s event will look a lot different than previous years due to COVID-19 precautions, but it will be no less meaningful. While we cannot gather together at Arch Street in person this year, we will instead host a drive-through event where people can stop by, drop off a donation and offering their well wishes to this wonderful cause. I plan to be there in person and I encourage you to drive by and join us as well.

Cooperatively,
Bruce

P.S. Please contact me if you are interested in sponsoring this event or supporting Camp Courant in other ways. There are plenty of opportunities to lend your support.
