President's Message
Condensed summary of Governor Lamont's Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Budget Address
Over 250 years ago, young lawyer, fervent American patriot, and future second President of the United States, John Adams, took up the defense of the British soldiers who opened fire on Americans during the Boston Massacre. The reasons why young John Adams took the case and the quality of his defense speak volumes about integrity, patriotism, and the relationship between the two. More practically speaking, however, Adams’s defense leaves an enduring reminder that facts remain constant and immovable no matter how hard the winds of opinion and wishful thinking may blow.
The League has prepared the following summary of Governor Lamont’s 2021 budget proposal, he calls “Connecticut’s Comeback.” A Governor’s proposed budget is simply the beginning of a legislative conversation; it is not fact. With this proposal, the Governor has sent to the legislature the first draft of his vision for Connecticut’s financial future of the next two years.
This budget will develop through twists and turns, public arguments, and private negotiations. Through it all, the League will be there to help you separate the stubborn facts from the buffeting winds of subjective opinion.
Cooperatively,
Bruce
