President's Message

As Juliet says to Romeo, “parting is such sweet sorrow.” At first glance, it is just a nice saying – communicating the sentiment of not wanting to say goodbye. But what is so sweet about the sorrow? The anticipation of meeting once again, of course.

The modern-day work environment is a bit different than Romeo and Juliet, but there is something to consider when faced with a valued employee who desires to pursue new opportunities with a different organization. In those moments, we are faced with some difficult choices. Do we try to keep the employee and protect the business area that he or she effectively manages? Or do we take on the burden of an operational disruption to offer help that person achieve their goals?

While every situation presents different and unique circumstances, many employees who feel satisfied and valued when they leave an organization maintain a fruitful and vibrant professional relationship that often results in mutual benefit down the road.

Today, we are sad to announce that our own Emmy Zeqo is departing the League later this month for an exciting new opportunity with the Hartford Firefighters Federal Credit Union. Parting is, indeed, such sweet sorrow.  Emmy has served the League with dedication, skill, and cheer and, while we will miss her regular presence in the office, we anticipate the joys of seeing Emmy again at League events, collaborating with her on future endeavors, and watching (expecting) her career continue to rise even higher.

Please join me and all the League staff in congratulating Emmy Zeqo at ezeqo@culct.coop. Huzzah!

As always,
Bruce
