Job Description

Summary/Objective: Oversees the accounting and payment processing functions of a mid-size financial institution.

Essential Functions

  • Work with CEO and existing Accounting Staff to restructure the Accounting Department
    • Identify areas that need improvement.
    • Create processes and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient accounting practices.
  • Enters data into accounting systems and update various spreadsheets daily. Journalizes all necessary transactions and verifies general ledgers are in balance.
  • Prepares and posts monthly general ledger transactions including, but not limited to investment and participation loan activity and schedules, prepaid and fixed asset subsidiary ledgers.
  • Prepares financial reports; ensures complete/accurate financial, statistical, and accounting reports.
  • Utilizing data processing systems, maintains accurate records for each credit union member for share and loan accounts. Ensures that all transactions are properly and accurately posted to the general ledger accounts. Oversees and assists in the reconciliation of all general ledger accounts and adjustments as necessary.
  • Performs all aspects of the accounts payable function; research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintains all records on investments made by the credit union.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education and Skill Experience

  • Four-year degree in Accounting, Finance, Audit, or Business Administration; three years of accounting experience at a financial institution; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written communications), active listening and positive attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
