The Opportunity
An Executive Leadership role that guides a purpose-first organization into the heart of its mission. This position leads key functions centered on the facilitation and execution of a Community strategy that is ready to take flight. Key responsibilities encompass supporting the identification of the most impactful intersection points and strategic pillars, cultivating the most impactful relationships, forging partnerships, discerning needs, generating solutions, providing support and education, and implementing strategies to promote financial freedom across a footprint spanning five counties in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. This position will collaborate closely with other functional areas throughout our company to foster a culture of ongoing enhancements, characterized by learning, innovation, and prosperity for all stakeholders, including members, team members, and the Credit Union as a whole.

You excel as a community leader skilled at assessing current and prospective needs, forging strategic alliances, and building symbiotic partnerships. Your skills include leading public relation plans and executing strategies across various media platforms and community engagements. You are adept at fostering and nurturing both internal and external relationships to advocate for members effectively.

You prioritize cultivating a strong organizational culture centered on psychological safety, learning, and team support through coaching, development, and mentorship. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Culture
- Creates a culture of engagement illustrated by strong Eagle Pulse scores and supporting sub-metrics within area of responsibility.
- Fosters an environment of collaboration with all functional areas across the organization to fully support the accomplishment of all strategic, profitability, sales, and service initiatives. Ensures that the Community Team seamlessly delivers on the values of the Credit Union to all internal and external members.
- Champions a culture of learning supported through coaching and mentoring team members. On-going coaching and annual reviews are designed to advance team members’ understanding of their strengths, core competencies, change management principles and result in effective succession planning.
Strategy
- Immerses the Community Team within our five-county footprint in order to deliver critical insights and shape the Credit Union’s strategic plans. Strategic insights are designed to drive innovation of products and services to benefit members, enable delivery of Mission and advance the relevance of the Credit Union. Provides valuable Voice of Market feedback after product launch to ensure learning and iteration.
- Proficiently evaluates partnership opportunities and creates strategic alliances to address ‘stress and worry’ in consumers’ lives. Collaborates with the CEO as a key partner in the design of our giving strategy, in alignment with financial freedom, to drive impact in the communities we serve.
- Leads the Community Committee to refine consumer problem statements, prioritize strategic themes and promote our giving posture. Identifies qualified candidates from the community to be Directors, Associate Directors, Volunteers and Committee members at the Credit Union.
- Develops public relations plans, strategies and activities to advance the Credit Union and increase our profile in the marketplace (television, radio, print media and community events). Develops and maintains community relations within the industry and outside the organization to drive advocacy.
- Effectively identifies new revenue opportunities, expands current revenue streams and promotes additional cost saving/efficiency strategies within the Community Team. Connects AEFCU Mission and Vision to new income opportunities to drive success. Effectively evaluates current work practices, processes, spaces and structures resulting in greater Mission impact, member engagement and profitability.
- Utilizes comprehensive strategies to achieve Balanced Scorecard metrics and budgeted outcomes. Monitors the performance scorecard and monthly goals of each business unit to ensure achievement and alignment to the Balanced Scorecard. Implements and re-directs resources to achieve strategic outcomes.
Other
- Collaborates with Marketing Team on logistical support for financial literacy seminars and community events.
- Manages external PR partners and resources.
- Proactive in vendor management to ensure strong value proposition and ROI for key vendor relationships.
- Proficiently anticipates and provides solutions in recurring meetings with the Board of Directors, Executive Leadership Team, Leadership Forum, Culture Forum, Operational Excellence Forum, Mission Forum, Strategic Planning Team, Risk Council, ALCO Committee, and Security Program Committee.
- Effectively provides oversight, accountability and leadership in annual regulatory exams. Is accountable for all audit outcomes—within area of responsibility—identified by internal and external auditors including the NCUA and DOB
- Ensures that appropriate responses to member complaints are completely resolved and findings are utilized to create process improvements designed to advance the member experience.
- Responsible for the completion of other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
This role requires Subject Matter Expertise and the ability to provide mentorship, guidance and training to other team members. While this level of expertise will generally be attained with a minimum of 8-12 years or more in a previous role as an Executive in Financial Services and Bachelor’s Degree. Priority will be place upon the demonstration of the ability to meet qualifications without an absolute focus on duration of experience, in recognition that the attainment of such qualifications may be obtained at different paces by different individuals.
