ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Leads all facets of consumer and indirect lending operations, from origination through funding, with a strong focus on volume, quality, spread and profitability.
  • Performs supervisory activities including recommendations concerning hiring, performance management, staffing changes, and training to develop and motivate a highly skilled team.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on all loan processes to ensure continuity of effective and efficient operations, regulatory compliance and quality member service.
  • Champion the credit union’s culture of compliance and controls, ensuring staff understands and embraces this culture.
  • Oversees full loan lifecycle including loan originations, underwriting, decisioning, funding and post-closing quality control.
  • Ensures consistent application of credit policies and risk appetite across all consumer and indirect loan products.
  • Manages pipeline performance and ensures timely processing aligned with service- level expectations.
  • Monitors and drives key lending metrics including look-to-book, approval ratios, turnaround times, yield and portfolio profitability.
  • Balance volume growth with credit quality and net interest margin goals.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Lending Officer and marketing to develop product promotions and lead-generation strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation across consumer and indirect product lines to meet evolving member needs.
  • Reviews and implements policies and procedures to ensure that all member accounts are properly serviced.
  • Identifies and maintains high standards of lending and recovery reporting, record-keeping, collateral management, loan servicing, and complex regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations including NCUA, CFPB, Fair Lending, ECOA, BSA/AML, and OFAC.
  • Coordinate responses to audits and examinations, ensuring thorough documentation and timely follow-up.
  • Develop, document, and maintain internal controls, standard operating procedures, and policy updates.
  • Stays up to date on regulatory changes affecting the lending program. Suggests changes to the loan policy and procedures based on regulatory changes and changes in current practices.
  • Build and maintain strong, high-level relationships with automotive dealers across all levels
  • Identify, recruit, and onboard new dealerships to expand the Credit Union’s reach and diversify originations.
  • Create and maintain a dealer scorecard to monitor performance, compliance, and profitability.
  • Actively promote the Credit Union’s value proposition to dealers, including training, incentives, and responsive service.
  • Support initiatives to increase indirect penetration, member conversions, and cross-sell opportunities.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as requested by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 7-10 years in lending operations within a financial institution environment required.
  • Demonstrated leadership in underwriting, operations and business development.
  • Extensive experience in lending operations with a proven track record of successful leadership.
  • In-depth knowledge of lending regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management principles.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and lead a diverse team to achieve common goals.
  • Proficiency in using lending software and other relevant technologies.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
