A Glimpse into the 2024 GAC Experience

Participating in the Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) as a crasher stands as one of the most transformative experiences of my career. As I traveled to Washington DC, anticipation mingled with nerves, uncertain of the journey that lay ahead. Alongside 56 fellow credit union professionals from diverse backgrounds and generations, we embarked on a collective journey of discovery. In the span of a week, barriers dissolved, and bonds formed as we shared intimate moments and forged lifelong friendships. The saying that crashing the GAC is a life-changing experience rings true. Emerging from the conference, I found myself with over 50 new connections, all united in our commitment to preserve the credit union purpose.

Participation in the GAC provided invaluable insights into the intricacies of the credit union movement, particularly the significance of advocacy, especially at the legislative level. Witnessing firsthand the dedication of advocates further fueled my passion for our industry. Representing Connecticut and our credit unions at the GAC was a profound honor. I extend a heartfelt gratitude to my employer and the Credit Union League of Connecticut for their unwavering support and encouragement.

As I reflect on my experience, I am inspired to champion the values of the credit union movement more passionately than ever before. To my fellow credit union professionals, I urge you to seize the opportunity to crash the GAC when it arises again. The connections forged and exposure gained are invaluable assets for personal and professional growth.

The 2024 crash the GAC experience served as a catalyst for personal and professional development, underscoring the importance of unity and advocacy within the credit union community. Let us continue to embrace opportunities for growth and collaboration as we work together to uphold the credit union purpose.
