President's Message

Golf for a Cause

Imagine an early misty morning. Imagine the sun breaking through the clouds as you stroll across green fields and trees budding with new life.

Dave Hinchey, VP of Community and Social Impact, has written a message to inspire you all to join us on June 20 for the CUBFI Golf Tournament Extravaganza of Fantastical Wonders and Delights.

As always,
Bruce

When I hit the links in an early season golf tournament to support the Meriden YMCA, the morning was cold and rainy – but it was also sunny. Charity golf tournaments are about so much more than the game. They are an opportunity to meet new people and have some outdoor fun raising money for a good cause.

Each spring, of “course”, our thoughts turn to CUBFI’s golf tournament, which brings people from across the CT Credit Union system together to raise money for all the charitable programs and initiatives CUBFI provides. This tournament helps fund financial education in the community, offers professional development opportunities for credit unions (financial coaching, scholarships for DE and GAC), raises awareness of the Credit Union Advantage, and supports local charities.

CUBFI, the League’s charitable foundation, collects and channels your generous support to invest in our communities and in our credit unions. Please join your credit union friends, on Tuesday, June 20, at Wampanoag in West Hartford. As they say, “The more, the merrier,” so bring a colleague, a family member, or even a neighbor! And please join us even if you don’t play golf—the course is beautiful, the food will be hot, and the drinks will be cold.

If you cannot join us this year, please consider making a donation to support our programs and initiatives.

Channeling David Letterman…

Here are the Top 10 reasons to attend CUBFI’s annual golf tournament:

  1. Money raised goes to support the financial reality fair program, which has helped nearly 40,000 CT high school students since 2008-09. Name a program that has provided credit union-sponsored financial education to that number of students over the same time period.
  2. Your donations to golf support CUBFI’s FiCEP program. Thanks to your generosity, we’re able to provide this program that trains your employees how to have difficult conversations about money and gives them the tools to help your members achieve financial well-being for all.
  3. Professional development scholarships. This year we sent two credit union professionals to CUNA’s Government Affairs Conference, which provided important value and access to our member credit unions to the premier credit union conference in the country.
  4. It’s good to get out of the office. Even if you’re not a golfer, make a charitable gift to the foundation and come have dinner and a beverage or two. The course has a nice patio to lounge and unwind. Maybe you’ll win something in the raffle or bid on some cool prizes.
  5. It fuels donations to local community organizations and non-profits.
  6. You get a chance to meet new people and make new friends.
  7. Catch up with old friends. With the pandemic over the last few years, it was easy to lose touch. Here’s an opportunity to get out there and reconnect with friends.
  8. Interact with our vendors, league partners, and our Title Sponsor CUNA Mutual Group. The tournament is popular with many vendors in the industry. Who knows, you might make a connection at the tournament that can help your credit union succeed.
  9. Food and drink. I mean, who doesn’t love good food and drinks?
  10. It’s a really great day that brings everyone together. Here at the League, we look forward to seeing all of you and catching up. We love opportunities to get together and visit with you, so please consider attending and supporting the foundation.

You can find the sponsorship packet (here). We hope to see you on the course.
