The Senior Processing Specialist, Consumer Lending plays a crucial role in the loan origination process, coordinating and managing the documentation and verification process to ensure timely and accurate processing of loan applications. Leveraging extensive experience and expertise in loan processing procedures, the Senior Processor leads the processing of complex loan files, resolves escalated issues, and provides guidance to junior staff members. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of lending regulations and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and support Dutch Point Credit Union values and service standards.
  • Lead the loan processing process for complex loan applications, including mortgage loans, home equity loans, personal loans, and auto loans, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Review loan applications and supporting documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
  • Coordinate with loan officers, underwriters, and borrowers to gather required documentation, resolve underwriting-related issues, and address borrower concerns.
  • Verify borrower income, employment, assets, and other financial information using appropriate documentation and verification methods.
  • Prepare loan files for underwriting review, including organizing and indexing documentation, updating loan files in the loan origination system, and submitting files to underwriting for review.
  • Communicate with borrowers, loan officers, and other internal and external stakeholders to provide updates on loan status, request additional documentation, and address inquiries and concerns.
  • Resolve escalated processing issues, including missing documentation, discrepancies in borrower information, and challenges in meeting closing deadlines.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior loan processors in handling complex loan files, resolving processing-related issues, and navigating underwriting and closing processes.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in loan processing procedures and compliance requirements and ensure adherence to updated guidelines and policies.
  • Support the credit union's commitment to excellent customer service by ensuring timely and accurate communication with borrowers and internal stakeholders throughout the loan origination process.

Performance Standards:

  • Process loan applications and documentation accurately and efficiently, meeting or exceeding established service level agreements and turnaround times.
  • Ensure that loan files are complete, accurate, and compliant with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies and procedures, minimizing errors and rework.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage workload to meet daily processing goals and deadlines, proactively identifying bottlenecks or challenges and implementing solutions to optimize workflow efficiency.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, loan originators, and other stakeholders to resolve issues, address questions, and expedite loan processing, fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration to achieve departmental objectives
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders, responding promptly to inquiries, providing status updates on loan applications, and ensuring a positive borrower experience throughout the processing journey.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry guidelines governing loan processing activities, maintaining accurate records and documentation to support regulatory audits and examinations.
  • Leverage loan origination systems and other technology tools to streamline processing workflows, improve data accuracy and accessibility, and enhance overall efficiency and productivity.
  • Identify and resolve processing issues, discrepancies, or exceptions in a timely and effective manner, collaborating with team members and escalating complex issues as needed to ensure prompt resolution.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the borrower experience, contributing ideas and feedback for process enhancements and operational improvements.

Qualification Requirements:

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in loan processing, with a focus on real estate processing preferred.
  • Strong understanding of loan processing procedures, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards governing lending operations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in loan origination systems and document management software.
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions from senior staff members, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism in handling sensitive borrower information.

  • Customer Focus: Dedication to providing excellent service to borrowers and internal stakeholders, responding promptly to inquiries, addressing concerns or issues, and ensuring a positive and seamless borrower experience throughout the loan processing journey.

Other Requirements: Work a minimum of two Saturdays a month.
