The following candidates are running for the Board of the Credit Union League of Connecticut. There are three open at-large positions and three running candidates. The League Annual Meeting is on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
John Holt
President/CEO, Nutmeg State Financial CU
John Holt is serving his 15th year as the Chief Executive Officer of Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union. As a purpose-driven leader with over two decades of experience in financial services, John is committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of members and the broader community. He combines strategic vision and operational expertise with a deep personal commitment to fostering financial stability, inclusion, and empowerment. Under John’s leadership, Nutmeg has advanced its mission of strengthening communities through innovative products-with-a-purpose, impactful financial education, and strategic partnerships. Growth minded, John recently led the CU to the largest merger in CT CU history, and is looking to continue to reach more members through mergers. John’s leadership philosophy is grounded in integrity, transparency, and ethical decision-making. He emphasizes open communication and active engagement, ensuring that Nutmeg listens to members, understands their challenges, and develops solutions tailored to their goals. John champions empathy and builds a culture of belonging, leading a team focused on creating financial opportunities that promote personal growth, family well-being, and long-term success. John holds a Master of Business Administration from Western New England College and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
Nick Moalli
President/CEO, America's First Network CU
With over 21 years of dedicated service to the credit union movement, Nick brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a deep commitment to the cooperative principles that define our industry. He began his career at the Credit Union League of Connecticut, where he provided consultative services to more than 100 credit unions across the state. His work during this time helped institutions navigate strategic planning, compliance, and operational challenges, laying a strong foundation for sustainable growth.
In 2014, Nick was named Vice President of Credit Union Services for the CT League, overseeing strategic initiatives, compliance support, and the League Service Corporation. His ability to align vision with execution has consistently driven positive outcomes for credit unions and their members.
Since 2017, Nick has served as President and CEO of America's First Network Credit Union, where he has led the organization through 8 years of growth and transformation.
Nick has also contributed to the industry through service on numerous boards and committees, including the Board of Directors for the Credit Union League of Connecticut for the past two years. His broad experience, spanning league-level support to AFN CU CEO, gives him a unique, 360-degree perspective on the needs, challenges, and opportunities facing credit unions today.
Nick is seeking re-election to the CULCT Board of Directors, to further advocate for the credit union industry, promote collaboration, and ensure the continued success and relevance of CT credit unions in an evolving financial landscape.
Karen Viets
President/CEO, Metropolitan District ECU
Karen Viets is CEO and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan District Employees' Credit Union in Hartford, CT. Karen has over 40 years' experience in financial services including 29 years in the Credit Union movement.
She has served the credit union community as Secretary and currently the Chairperson of the CT Credit Union League. She has also served as Vice President of the Hartford Chapter, a volunteer for Financial Reality Fairs since their beginning, a member of the Cooperative Development Committee, and a supporter of the workability program. In 2008 Karen was selected to intern in Trinidad and Tobago as part of the League's International Partnership.
Karen is certified as a Credit Union Development Educator through the National Credit Union Foundation in Madison, WI. She has put this certification into action. Her CUDE project and goal as a CU executive is to follow the cooperative principles and to train staff and members about the importance of financial literacy for all.
MDECU is a single sponsor credit union, offering a full array of services, with $33 million in assets -- close to the median asset size of Connecticut's credit unions. Being from a small Credit Union that has benefited from League membership, Karen understands the importance of the partnership between Credit Unions and the League. She hopes to continue to bring an understanding of small credit union needs to the Board and to help other small Connecticut credit unions gain a full understanding of the value of the League.
Outside of the Credit Union, Karen has held various volunteer positions on youth boards in her community. She currently sits on the Granby Community Fund budget and admissions committee. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management/Accounting from Colby-Sawyer College in NH. She resides in Granby, CT with her husband.
