Ellafi FCU's President/CEO Retires After 28 Years of Leadership
Ellafi Federal Credit Union, formerly known as Seasons Federal Credit Union, announces the retirement of its long-serving President/CEO, Keith A. Wiemert, effective this month. Mr. Wiemert departs following a 28-year tenure marked by innovation, growth, and unwavering dedication to the credit union movement and the Middlesex County and Meriden communities.
Mr. Wiemert began his leadership journey in April 1997, when the organization, then known as Middlesex Schools Federal Credit Union, managed just under $40 million in assets. Under his steady and visionary leadership, Ellafi has grown to more than $175 million in assets, undergoing three successful name changes and rebrands to reflect its evolving mission and expanding membership.
During his tenure, Mr. Wiemert guided the credit union through a major transformation from a single sponsor institution to a community-chartered financial cooperative, enabling broader service to individuals and families throughout the region. He also led the successful completion of three strategic mergers, enhancing the credit union’s capabilities and reach. In addition, Mr. Wiemert was instrumental in launching new product lines, including mortgage lending, credit and debit cards, and digital banking solutions.
Throughout his tenure, Mr. Wiemert has been a pillar of the Middlesex County community, serving actively on the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, as a Rotary Club member, and through countless civic and charitable involvements.
His passion for cooperative finance extended statewide and nationally, serving on the Credit Union League of Connecticut’s Board of Directors, where he held the role of Chairman. Mr. Wiemert also was a certified Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE), and helped to mentor the next generation of credit union leaders.
“Keith’s retirement marks the end of an extraordinary era for our credit union,” said Betsy Sommers, Co-Acting CEO alongside Robyn Swanson until Ellafi’s Board of Directors concludes its internal and external search. “His leadership has shaped not just our institution, but the financial lives of tens of thousands of members.”
