GAC 2025 Daily Journal

Day 1

Yesterday, Dave, Jen, and I arrived in D.C. safely and hit the ground running! The energy here is incredible, with credit union leaders from all over the country coming together for an exciting week of advocacy, networking, and learning.

We kicked things off by meeting with collaborators from other Leagues and industry professionals. It’s always great to see how Leagues and the credit unions we serve work together to push for policies supporting our members and communities. One big takeaway: collaboration is key, and when we speak with a unified voice, we can make real change happen.

Then, we were on to the PAC (CULAC) meetings, where other essential conversations focused on the role of political engagement in protecting and advancing credit union priorities. It’s clear that staying active in the political space is more important than ever, and today’s discussion reinforced how we can all play a role in making our advocacy efforts.  Be sure to enter the PAC Sweepstakes to help elect credit union champions!  You can contribute by scanning the QR code on the attached flyer or donate directly at the Sweepstakes table in the Washington Convention Center.

But the real highlight of the day? Will Guidara’s keynote! His perspective on leadership and service, inspired by his experience in the hospitality industry, was refreshing and inspiring. He introduced the idea of Unreasonable Hospitality—going above and beyond to create meaningful connections and unforgettable experiences. His message hit home:

  • Small, thoughtful actions can have a huge impact.
  • Relationships matter more than transactions.
  • A service-first mindset isn’t just for restaurants—it’s a game-changer in any industry, including credit unions.

After a full day of learning and connecting yesterday, we’re excited about what’s ahead. We're starting the day with the CT Legislative Briefing Breakfast at 8:00 AM in Room 152B of the Washington Convention Center. From there, we’ll head to the Opening Session, where we’ll dive into another day of learning, networking, and advocating for our credit unions.

Day 2

Day 2 was filled with energy, great content and powerful conversations!

We started with the CT Legislative Briefing Breakfast, with our friend Clement from ACU setting the stage for the day ahead. The Opening Session was a proud moment as Karen and I carried the CT flag, representing our state with enthusiasm.

A major highlight was Carla Harris’s keynote, where she delivered an inspiring message on leadership and influence, encouraging us to embrace our strengths and lead with confidence.

The day continued with amazing breakout sessions, covering key topics shaping our industry. In the afternoon, the General Session brought big conversations, including an advocacy update, and fireside chats with TruStage CEO Terrance Williams and NCUA Chairman Kyle Hauptman—both offering valuable insights on the future of our movement.

In the evening, Dave attended the Herb Wegner Awards alongside a group of CT credit union leaders, celebrating industry changemakers. Meanwhile, Jen and a few CT credit union professionals had an intimate event with Rep. Jahana Hayes, strengthening our relationship with our legislators.  During this time, I was happy to host some of our CT attendees to a networking dinner.

With so much momentum, we’re ready for an exciting Day 3 where we look forward to another great day!  Tomorrow we welcome all CT attendees to join us for a meeting with NCUA Board Member Tanya Otsuka in Room 152B at 12:15 pm.  Please grab your boxed lunches and head to the meeting room, we’re looking forward to great dialogue.

Day 3

Wow—what. a. day. If you thought the energy at GAC 2025 was slowing down, think again! Day 3 was packed with insightful breakouts, meaningful conversations, and some truly inspiring moments that left us fired up for what’s next.

First off, the breakout sessions today were nothing short of informative and engaging—covering everything from regulatory updates to strategic innovations shaping the future of our industry. The discussions were sharp, the takeaways actionable, and the networking? Top-notch.

One of the biggest highlights of the day? Meeting with NCUA Board Member Tanya Otsuka—a fantastic opportunity to engage in real conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing our industry. And if that wasn’t enough, we also had a chance to connect with NCUA Chair Kyle Hauptman for a meaningful exchange of insights. These moments—where we get to bring our perspectives to the table and hear directly from leaders—are what make GAC so impactful.
Then came the general session with Coach K, and wow... mind blown. The legendary coach didn’t just talk about leadership—he embodied it. His words resonated on so many levels, reinforcing what it truly means to lead with purpose. Whether you’re on the court or in the office, those lessons hit home.

Of course, beyond the sessions and speakers, today was another goldmine for networking and relationship building. Everywhere you turned, conversations were happening—new connections, old friends, and those moments where you realize you’re sitting next to someone who shares your mission and passion.
And just when you think you can catch your breath—lace up those walking shoes!

Tomorrow, after the closing general session, we Hike the Hill and make our voices heard. GAC isn’t just about learning and connecting—it’s about action. Let’s finish strong!

Day 4

The day began with compelling closing keynote speaker, Stacey Hanks, leaving us inspired and motivated to carry this momentum forward.
With that energy, we set out for a full day of advocacy, making six Congressional visits and spending many hours in the House and Senate buildings ensuring the voices of credit unions were heard.

Walking over 7,000 steps through the halls of Congress, we shared real-life stories that illustrate the impact credit unions have on communities. Advocacy isn’t just about policy—it’s about people. By telling our stories, we demonstrated the difference we make and reinforced our mission to serve.

As the day came to a close, the conversations and connections made reinforced the importance of showing up and speaking out. Advocacy doesn’t stop here—it’s a continuous effort, and today was a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we stand together for credit unions.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took the time to come down to the GAC to advocate for Connecticut credit unions and their members. Your dedication and passion make a difference, and together, we are shaping a stronger future for our movement.
