Chris Whalen, MBA

VP-Marketing and Strategic Solutions

Christopher Whalen, a visionary leader in the credit union movement, has left an indelible mark through his innovative contributions and unwavering commitment to cooperative collaboration.

Following a fast-paced and eye-opening internship at MasterCard in the Public Policy and Regulatory department during the Durbin Amendment fight, Chris shifted attention to credit unions.

As the Marketing and E-Services Specialist at Connex Credit Union, Chris developed award-winning campaigns and was a part of bringing new technology to the credit union. He was selected by the Filene Research Institute as a Crasher to America’s Credit Unions’ (formerly CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference, and later that year won the CO-OP Financial Services THINK Prize. His entry for "MobileOne" demonstrated the need for a comprehensive mobile platform designed to unify and enhance mobile banking solutions for credit union members nationwide. This achievement highlighted his ability to innovate and address industry needs creatively.

Following his success at Connex and within the movement, Chris took on a significant role at the Credit Union League of Connecticut as its Communication and Public Relations Manager, where he launched a statewide awareness initiative that resulted in Connecticut’s highest measured membership growth ever.

His role at the Connecticut League would later be elevated to Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Solutions, where his efforts shifted to helping establish partnerships and develop programs aimed at building sustainable and thriving credit unions. Beyond marketing, Chris works to understand all functional areas of credit union operations.

Chris believes that despite market force challenges, credit unions are uniquely positioned to focus on their communities and thrive in an environment where consumers seek authenticity.

Chris continues to drive progress, always seeking innovative solutions and refusing to settle for the status quo. His leadership inspires others to elevate the credit union movement both locally and nationally.
